Protection & Control (P&C) Field Services Substation Integration and Automation (SIA) - Mobile, AL
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the Protection & Control (P&C) Field Services Substation Integration and Automation (SIA) activities for the Mobile Region of Alabama Power. The office is in Mobile, Alabama. This position may be filled by an engineer or technician. Major responsibilities include:
Create, maintain, and error check configuration files for substation integration equipment
Commission and maintain software on substation integration equipment
Commission, test, and troubleshoot substation integration and SCADA equipment
Plan and complete projects safely, efficiently, accurately and on schedule
Respond to abnormal conditions related to substation integration equipment
Provide technical support to design, operations, maintenance, and construction personnel
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education Requirements
Engineer: 4-year Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering is preferred
Technician: 2-year Associates Degree in Electrical Technology is preferred
Experience Requirements
Experience commissioning and testing substation SCADA is highly desired
Experience or training in microprocessor (IED) technology is highly desired
Experience or training in serial and ethernet network communications is required
Experience performing power system power calculations and measurements is desired
Experience with substation protection and control design or application is a plus
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of safe work practices in substation or industrial environments
Knowledge of control schemes and SCADA system operation
Knowledge of serial and ethernet communication software and protocols
Knowledge of 3-phase power calculations and measurements
Ability to use a computer to communicate with other microprocessor devices
Ability to use spreadsheets and other computer productivity tools
Ability to use a multimeter and hand tools in an electrical environment
Ability to make decisions in stressful situations
Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups
Ability to work with others as a team member and leader
Project management and organization skills
Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Must have a valid driver's license
Must pass background investigation for access at Transmission facilities
Must be available to work outside of normal duty hours for trouble response
Must work outdoors frequently and travel (75% of time) within the coverage area
Must live or relocate within a commutable (less than 1 hour of travel time) distance of the Mobile SIA office
Relocation expense assistance will not be provided.
The successful candidate will be required to report to the Birmingham SIA office for training purposes for one month.
